In Vietnam over half the wounded developed Acinetobacter Baumannii
infections, though it wasn't the drug resistant variety in Iraq today.
 
Increasingly this looks like it mirrors Vietnam in that the infections are near
water sources. Granted soil samples match DNA profile for some of the
hospital infections, its hard to determine what is the exact method of
introduction.
 
Its thought that open wounds might be infected by the soil bacteria, but some
of the infections are a variety generally found in contaminated hospitals.

Acinetobacter is a water loving bacteria. So its possibly being spread
through lavage equipment in ICU's. Mainly head injury cases. As the
contaminated water sprays the room the droplets in the air are respirated by
the host, which could turn onto pneumonia. The bottom map shows the
pneumonia cases in Iraq. Along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
